BATON ROUGE LAND SURVEYING

KEY COMPONENTS:

EQUIPMENT
BRLS has at present 3 fully equipped totally robotic survey crews, which will enable us to staff the project. By switching to a fully robotic survey system, the BRLS survey crews using 1 man with the robotic instrument can easily equal the productivity of a traditional 3 man survey crew, as the party chief is on the pole where the decisions are made. Because of our unique system of complete field to finish, the man in the field who collects the data will then return to the office and perform the initial reduction of the field data so as to enable a most efficient transition to the finished plat. Our survey party chiefs are experienced in all phases of the survey process, from the fieldwork to courthouse research, to office calculations.
We utilize the very latest in fully electronic data collection equipment utilizing the TOPCON APL1A fully robotic total stations with the TDS Ranger and the Carlson explorer data collection system. We are the only firm in the Baton Rouge area with the Topcon APL-1A robotic total station, considered to be one of the premier robotic instruments manufactured, which permits true 1 man surveying for a most efficient data collection operation. We have utilized robotic surveying equipment longer than any firm in the Baton Rouge area. We have 3 such systems at present in daily use by this firm, with 1 instrument in reserve as a backup. All crews have laptop computers for more intensive survey calculations for use in the field. As part of our survey crew's standard equipment, we also equip our crews with cell phones, digital cameras, pagers and handheld radios for use in high noise areas. We have recently acquired a Trimble GPS system for use in our work for GPS services.
SOFTWARE
In the office we utilize several different types of land surveying/civil engineering software packages including the Carlson Software Survey 2007, Eagle Point 2006 and AUTOCAD. We have developed our own in-house descriptor code list, which closely mimics the La DOTD code system. We utilize this code system on a daily basis in the field by the survey crews to ensure efficient data collection and ease of transition to finish plat by the office technician. We utilize aerial photography for planning projects when needed as this can be helpful on most any project. We have used descriptor-coding systems since the mid 1990’s and we are very familiar with this method of data collection.

LOCAL PROJECT EXPERIENCE

We have extensive experience in almost all types of land surveying projects. We have completed numerous boundary and topographic surveys of all sizes and scopes. We have specialized in handling numerous projects simultaneously. We performed large scale topographic surveys for the Ascension parish School Board on several sites. We have performed numerous surveys of all types of properties in the Baton Rouge area for commercial clients, architects, and developers. In the past 21 years, we have performed approximately 20,000 individual surveys since the firm was founded and these surveys, along with private files acquired from several retired land surveyors gives us a valuable resource in which to perform the miscellaneous surveys which will be needed during the course of this project.
